Miami is the cultural, economic and financial centre of South Florida in the United States. Miami is the sixth most densely populated major city in the US. The metropolitan area is home to 6.1 million people, the second-most populous in the southeastern United States and the 7th in the nation.
Miami is a major centre and leader in finance, commerce, culture, arts, and international trade. The metro area is by far the largest urban economy in Florida and the 12th largest in the United States, with a GDP of $344.9 billion as of 2017. According to a 2018 UBS study of 77 world cities, the city was ranked as the third-richest in the US and the 8th richest in the world in terms of purchasing power. Miami is nicknamed as the "little Havana" and is one of the largest city with a Cuban-American plurality.
The potential of the American market is well-known to the MRO software industry. Many airlines and MRO providers in the Americas currently use outdated MRO software. They will sooner or later screen the market for fully integrated MRO software solutions to meet maintenance organisations' current and future requirements. In response to the market needs, Swiss-AS established an AMOS business unit in Miami, FL, USA, in 2010, in partnership with its sister company Lufthansa Systems. In the meantime, Swiss-AS counts over 15 customers in the Americas.
